Fibromyalgia Questions and Answers

Every day I find myself asking the same questions about fibro, again and again. These questions are asked in my classes I teach my workshops, on Facebook, in support groups that I find on my site and many phone calls I get every day. I decided to use today's blog to answer some of these questions.

1 is fibromyalgia Really Exist? If you have fibro, you know that sometimes someone suggested that there was no such thing as fibro or what was in his head or even more insulting, that you were a bum. Many times this is pure ignorance that many doctors and general public, on the other hand, has not the slightest idea what it is or what fibro symptoms. Some even say that fibromyalgia is a combination of symptoms, but not a real disease. This is absolutely, positively wrong.

Fibromyalgia is a disease just as diabetes is a disease in the same way MS is a disease, etc. The research is very clear on this and know for a fact that fibromyalgia and all symptoms are caused by a more active nervous system which means that the central nervous system becomes all the time overdrive.

The constant firing of the nervous system causes all the various symptoms that people with fibromyalgia treatment constantly. Each symptom can be attributed to it.

2 Well, what are the symptoms? The answer to that may have pages to go, but the short version is this. The most common six almost everyone experiences with fibro symptoms are pain, fatigue, insomnia, depression, gastrointestinal problems and insomnia. This is not to say that these are all symptoms, not by a long shot, only the Big Six, as I call them.

I accumulated list 60 also affects other symptoms people with fibro, some, the majority of patients, only a portion of 80 percent of patients, some of which only 50 percent of the patients, etc. These symptoms They can also get in and out once, or get a little better or worse. However, the Big Six seems ever present.

3 What can I do medical examination to determine if I have fibromyalgia? Unfortunately, at this time, is not a test, either blood, urine, or (X-ray, MRI, etc.) imaging test that can check fibro. It is very important to remember that that is not proof, no means no fibro. however, no evidence has been found.

4 Why the medical pressure-sensitive points on the body as a means for determining fibromyalgia? When doctors find these so called tender points, which are really finding pockets of lactic acid (trigger points), which are common with fibro.

The problem is that these points are also common victory of the general public, some with muscle diseases and others that are totally healthy. Recent studies have shown that the sensitivity of the test from 12 to 18 points as rather useless as a diagnostic aid. In fact scientists have studied, loudly claimed that susceptibility testing should abandon.

I agree with this, but trigger points are very common and can also be the result of more exercise, falls and injuries and other things. It should not be used as an indicator of fibro and can lead to too many false diagnoses.

5 If you suspect I have Fibromyalgia, what type of doctor should I see? One problem with fibromyalgia is that it is false and misleading as there, not only public information but also doctors. Because doctors man understands so little about the disease, it really is hard to find a doctor who can help. Normally, one would think that would be a good choice rheumatologist, but unfortunately this is not always the case.

Many times a general practitioner or any other type of document could be much more versed in the intricacies of the fibro. We must also understand that there is a specialty in itself in fibromyalgia, many doctors get their information from a weekend seminar and probably more often a pharmaceutical representative who comes to the sales office more new drugs, of course The objective of the seller is the doctor to prescribe a particular medicine. It is estimated that each physician with a license from the DEA (prescribe) received at least two, and often more visits to these tests a week.

6 What I can find a doctor who can help me? The best answer I can give is to go by trial and error. If you know someone with fibro is an excellent doctor, that's the way to go. Alternatively, you can ask your doctor for referrals, but remember that often a reference can be a friend of the doc. Yes, it is still often a network of good guys, so be aware of that.

If you go to a doctor and you are treated harshly or not given the attention it needs, and much, and let the doc know why. I love the words, "I shot that" Once again, it is important to let the doc know why you're so sad, so this is not our health care system is not going to change for the better ..

7 What are the drugs that have been developed for fibromyalgia? Unfortunately, to date there are no drugs that have been developed for fibromyalgia. The three most common drugs that are heard are Lyrica (really anticonvulsant medication), Cymbalta (depression medication) and now Savella (also anti-depressant drugs). these three drugs already available and being used for other diseases, and to date there have been no new drugs for fibro.
