Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) , also called tic douloureux , is a pain in the trigeminal nerve, which carries sensation from the face to the brain. The pain is felt in those areas supplied by the trigeminal nerve , including the cheeks , jaw, teeth, gums, lips , or less often the eyes and forehead. This pain can range from mild to occasional pangs of episodes of shooting pain or throbbing pain.
This condition is usually caused by the following reasons: the pressure on the nerve by an artery or vein ; as a result of aging ; pressure due to tumor ; nerve damage due to multiple sclerosis and other diseases ; and unknown causes. The pain can be triggered by simple things like shaving, brushing the face , eating, drinking, brushing teeth , talking, makeup , find a breeze or smile.
TN Ayurvedic treatment aims to control pain and treat the cause , if known . For symptomatic relief of pain as drugs against Yograj Guggulu , Guggulu Kaishor , Trayodashang Guggulu , Panch - Tikta - Ghrut Guggulu , Tapyadi - Loh Ekang - Veer - Ras , Maha - VAT - Vidhwans - Ras , Vat - Gajankush - Ras , Vish - Tinduk - Vati and Agnitundi - Vati are used. Herbal medicines used are: Nirgundi ( Vitex negundo ) , Dashmool ( Ten roots), Chitrak ( Plumbago zeylanica ) Kuchla ( Strychnos Nuxvomica ) , Guggulu (Commiphora ) , Punarnava ( Boerhaavia diffusa) , Tagar ( Valeriana wallichii ) Shalparni ( Desmodium gangeticum ) Prushnaparni ( Uraria picta ) , Vishwa ( Zinziber officinalis) , Maric (Piper nigrum) , Khurasani - Ova ( Hyoscyamus Niger ) , jatamansi ( Nardostachys jatamansi ) , Ashwagandha ( Withania somnifera ) , Yashtimadhuk ( Glycerrhiza glabra ) Sarpagandha ( Rauwolfia serpentina ) and Jayphal ( Myristica fragrans ) .
Patients with known or neuritis neuralgia can be treated with high doses of Kaishor Guggulu , Tapyadi - Loh and Ekang - Veer - Ras . Evidence of the pressure on the nerve due to an artery or a vein, medications such as Maha - Vaat - Vidhwans , Sarpagandha Jatamansi and can be used to reduce nerve sensitivity .
A tumor can be treated surgically or with drugs such as Arogya - Vardhini , Triphala Guggulu Guggulu and Kanchnaar . Loh , Ashwagandha and Yashtimadhuk - If nerve damage from diseases like multiple sclerosis can be treated with drugs such as Kaishor Guggulu , Tapyadi known .
Because these patients can not tolerate local applications of drugs, treatment options such as medication fomentation may not be feasible in this state. However, in some refractory patients who do not respond adequately to these drugs, there are other treatment options may be considered . Bleeding area near the location of the trigeminal nerve , using leeches is a viable treatment option and can provide significant pain relief .
It is important to note that treatment should be given to long-term in order to obtain good results and prevent recurrence.
