Fibromyalgia - Living Your Best Life

I decided to write a series of articles on fibromyalgia and support to educate as many people as possible. By sharing my experience and research, I hope that you know fibromyalgia is not alone. It is my desire to give those unfamiliar with fibromyalgia opportunity to understand their life-altering effects . The series includes several treatments such as ; meditation , medication , nutrition , exercise and the importance of support .

It is estimated that at least 10 million people in the United States have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Most likely there are many other symptoms that have not been diagnosed .

First, and most importantly for me , do not tell me , " I have fibromyalgia. " Do not want to be defined as women with fibromyalgia . Therefore , I say: "I see the symptoms of fibromyalgia. " I believe in the power of positive thinking , actions and speech. I think our mind has a great impact on our bodies .

You may have read or heard of " The Law of Attraction " ( Esther and Jerry Hicks ) , "The Secret" ( Rhonda Bynes ) , "The Power of Positive Thinking " (Norman Vincent Peale ) , Dr. Wayne Dyer, and others who have written and / or conferences on this topic. I think if you keep your positive mind, helps you live the best life possible . However, I have my occasional pity party. I will not stay there long.

I felt physical pain 24/7 for most of my life. In 1999 , after several visits to GPs and to be called , physical therapy , chiropractic and acupuncture ; I found a doctor who said, " I think I may have fibromyalgia . " Felt heard and understood for the first time in my life . Finally, there was a name to my pain. For me, the knowledge of the truth is easier to live with than the unknown. With a name to the pain I had a place to start research, various treatments , and a new way of life.

I've always been a very independent woman and keep fighting for greater autonomy possible. Well , I came to a place of acceptance that some things are best left to others.

I also feel the symptoms of degenerative disc disease in the neck and lower back , arthritis , nerve pain , asthma and neuroma. I take a very active role in my care through reading, research, continuing treatment and ask questions. I have tried many types of drugs , treatments and combinations in the search for the best possible results . I'll talk about these things in future articles about fibromyalgia .

I think it's very important to take an active role in their own health. You do not have to accept the first answer , medications , treatments, etc. If what you're doing is not working , please follow another meditation , treatment and / or doctor. So far I have not found a drug or treatment that prevents pain . My goal is to obtain a reduction of pain that allows me to work .

I am grateful to live in Oregon , home of the Oregon Health Sciences University ( OHSU ) . OHSU has some of the best research teams in the country. Dr. Bennett, one of the nation 's experts on fibromyalgia , is the medical advisor to the OHSU Department fibromyalgia . I had the honor of meeting and for years I have participated in many studies of the Ministry of Research .

It is difficult for those unfamiliar with fibromyalgia to understand the impact of this disease. Fibromyalgia is not recognized by external appearances . Often I look for the lesson or a gift that comes from experience . One of the many gifts I received from my experience of fibromyalgia is more understanding of others . Not always know what is happening in the lives of others . Found that the expression of kindness and understanding towards others , regardless of their behavior , usually has a positive outcome. What would it mean for you if you are feeling a little down and a stranger smiles at you or you go before them in a long line at the supermarket? A friend of mine likes to buy a coffee or a drink for the person behind a car window up.

Put a smile on my face shows the world that I am in control of what I am . Humor is one of the many precious gifts I received from my parents. My mother told her mood through many of its darkest moments . Laughter is one of the most positive things a person can do to bring the body , mind and spirit together.

Please our family's favorite is the Serenity Prayer : . " God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, courage to change the things I can and wisdom to know the difference " I accepted that I can not change the diagnosis, but I am constantly looking for ways to live my best life .

If you're like me , there may be days when you want to pull the covers over your head and stay in bed all day. The agreement with myself , I'll get out of bed every day , dressed , as if waiting for society to do at least one thing, and do it at least one positive thing for someone else.

It is also important to maintain a certain pace during the day. Listen to your body and respond to signals. If I ignore the needs of my body , the results are not optimal and often takes longer to recover.

Making some minor adjustments in your life can have a huge impact. Remember that this " experience " can be uncomfortable and / or challenge ; Again, fortunately, is not fatal. You are in total control of living your best life , no matter the circumstances .
